I retired two years ago, and bought myself a retirement present…a converted Ford van. I thought about something swanky, but then was asked, “how many nights a year will you have to sleep in the van to justify the cost”? Made me think. And wouldn’t you know it, the very next day Betty (she didn’t have a name yet) came up on Craigslist; I hightailed it to Santa Cruz which involved an airplane ride and a car trip, and bought her on the spot.
I thought about calling her Gertrude…she’s old and gray and comfy as a grandma’s lap, but that just didn’t have the right ring to it – I’m a fun girl after all. Fast forward a spell, and chatting with my partner who is so clever at the name game, and her name became Betty Grayble; a slightly different spelling than the 40s pin-up gal, though I knew this is just the right name for her sassy self.
For 2023 she’s getting a little sprucing up and mechanically checked out before I adventure again, and then I’ll share some new photos. In the meantime, I will share some of my adventures that don’t include Betty Grayble. She doesn’t swim well, so as I cross oceans seeking new experiences she gets left behind.
Keep an eye out for us at music festivals and other adventures, primarily in California and Nevada…but who knows where we will pop up.
